RAFFLE TICKET WINNERS ANNOUNCED! MORE THAN $114,000 RAISED FOR HONOR FLIGHT!

West Fargo, ND – Dennis Schell of Pelican Rapids and Rachel Rogen of West Fargo are the winners of two vehicles being raffled off for the WDAY WWII Honor Flight program.

Schell won the 2006 Dodge Durango. He purchased his ticket during a turkey festival in Pelican Rapids. Rogen won the 2006 PT Cruiser Convertible. She purchased her ticket during a fundraiser at Farmer’s Union Insurance. The cars were donated by the Chrysler and Dodge Dealer groups to help raise money for the WDAY WWII Honor Flight.

$108,630 was raised for Honor Flight.

The drawing was held Monday night at the West Fargo VFW.

WDAY WWII Honor Flight is a community-wide effort to send WWII veterans from the North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota to the World War II Memorial free of charge. More than 100 area veterans took part in the first WDAY WWII Honor Flight in May of this year.

Two more trips are planned for this fall; September 7-8th and November 2-3rd. Organizers hope to take about 250 veterans and their escorts on the trips. The groups will travel aboard Northwest Airlines Boeing 747s out of Hector International Airport. In addition to visiting the WWII Memorial, the veterans will be treated to a banquet in their honor and tours of Arlington National Cemetery and the Korean and Vietnam War memorials. The entire trip is free to veterans as a thank you to them for their service during World War II.

Each of the Honor Flight trips this fall will cost about $240,000. The cost includes airfare, hotel, buses, food and tours. The region has raised enough money for Honor Flight #2 in September. Fundraising is ongoing for Honor Flight #3 in November.
