WDAY WORLD WAR II
HONOR FLIGHT
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
|
WDAY Honor Flight is no longer accepting applications for future trips.
However, you can still apply on the National Honor Flight Website at
http://www.honorflight.org/.
There are many locations around the country conducting these trips and we
hope other groups in Minnesota and North Dakota consider organizing a trip
for the World War II Veterans in their community. |
1. Who qualifies to go?
Any World War II veteran from North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota
regardless of age, gender, income level, or service record.
2. How do you decide who goes?
It’s first-come-first serve. Your application is date-stamped upon
arrival.
3. Do I need an escort?
No, you do not. We chose to offer the option of having an escort to aid
those veterans who might need a little extra help getting around. However,
we will have volunteers helping the veterans should they need it. Choosing
not to have an escort will not harm your chances of being selected for the
flight.
4. If I don’t have an escort will I room
alone?
No, you might be paired with another unescorted veteran.
5. How much does it cost to be an escort
and when will you need the money?
$750. That pays for the airfare, hotel and food. Escorts should not pay
any money until they have been officially accepted onto the flight. A
letter will sent notifying trip participants. A deposit might be required
a few weeks following that.
6. Is somebody making money off of this?
Nobody involved in WDAY WWII Honor Flight is making any money. We are set
up as a 501 (c) (3), a non-profit entity. All of your contributions are
tax deductible. We are doing this to honor our World War II veterans.
Everyone involved on the committee is volunteering their time and
energies.
7. If I donate will my loved one get to
go or can I sponsor a veteran to go?
Two questions, really. Donations are completely separate from the
application process. In choosing who gets to go we will not look at
whether the veteran or his/her family has donated money. We do not want to
the give the impression anyone is buying their way onto this trip. As far
as sponsoring a veteran, we’ve set up a program called “Adopt a Vet” (
adoptavet@loretel.net ).
Through this program service groups and schools can raise money to send a
veteran on the trip. But at this time you cannot earmark who that veteran
will be. Those chosen are first come first serve.
8. Can loved ones book a commercial
flight for themselves and meet up with the Honor Flight group in
Washington?
Absolutely! We’d love to have you. DO NOT BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOMS OR FLIGHT
UNTIL YOUR LOVED ONE HAS BEEN ACCEPTED ON THE TRIP. You should be able to
join us at most activities in Washington. However, space limitations might
require exclusion from some events. We’ll know more once the itinerary is
firmed up. Contact Tod Ganje at Carlson Wagonlit Travel for more
information about accommodations. 218-236-0532.
9. Will there be future trips? If so,
when?
WDAY WWII HONOR FLIGHT WILL HOLD A TOTAL OF THREE TRIPS IN 2007: MAY,
SEPTEMBER AND NOVEMBER. NO TRIPS HAVE BEEN PLANNED AND CANNOT BE EXPECTED
AFTER 2007. ALL APPLICATIONS TAKEN AFTER AUGUST 2007 WILL BE PLACED ON A
WAITING LIST AS ALL FLIGHTS ARE CURRENTLY FULL. THE POTENTIAL FOR TRIPS
AFTER 2007 WILL BE DETERMINED AT A LATER DATE.
10. Where can I donate?
At any State Bank and Trust location or mail to “ Honor Flight” 505 3rd
Ave. No, Fargo, ND, 58102.
11. Can I still apply?
WDAY Honor Flight is no longer accepting applications for
future trips. However, you can still apply on the National
Honor Flight Website at
http://www.honorflight.org/. There are many
locations around the country conducting these trips and we hope other
groups in Minnesota and North Dakota consider organizing a trip for
the World War II Veterans in their community.
