September 7-8, 2007 Honor Flight Pictures Another WDAY WWII Honor Flight is now history! We just returned from Washington D.C. with 250 amazing World War II veterans from North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. It was our privilege to take them to see the WWII memorial as well as visits to Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln, Korean and Vietnam memorials. This time around, many of our veterans got to take pictures and visit with former Senator and WWII veteran Bob Dole and former Secretary of State General Colin Powell who came to the memorial to meet the 900 veterans from Honor Flight trips around the country. Again, it was a humbling experience to spend time with these amazing men and women. They are heroes whether they want to believe it or not. I hope to reflect further about our experiences with these veterans in a blog entry later this week. Many of the veterans and their families expressed interest in writing thank you letters to the many people involved in the trip including the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, Northwest Airlines, Hector Airport, Dulles Airport, and the TSA. We've been working with specific individuals with these groups. In the coming days, I'll let you know their addresses if you want to drop them a note. But, again it is not expected. I can't tell you the number of times people working on this trip from the various entities told me it was their pleasure to serve these veterans. Some even volunteered to work on their day off. Thanks again for an amazing trip!!! |
