Former ND Governor Guy Honored
The first WDAY WWII Honor Flight is now history! We had a great time escorting more than 100 WWII veterans to the WW II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Thanks to the generous donations of our communities the trip was completely free to the veterans. We had a great time visiting the sites of Washington. Four of our veterans, Hubert Taylor, Alex Sahr, Charles Walker and Victor Gelking had the honor of representing their branches of the military by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. The group also had the chance to watch the ceremonial changing of the guard. Our North Dakota and Minnesota Senators and Representatives hosted the group at a Capitol Hill reception with Hawaiian Senator Daniel Inouye, a WW II Hero. The weekend trip was capped off with the emotional visit to the WWII Memorial. The veterans told us it was both emotional and moving. Pastor Bill Rindy of First Lutheran Church in Fargo said prayers for the fallen ND and MN soldiers. We appreciate the extensive media coverage provided by Andrea Domaskin and Dave Samson from The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, Jim Monk of WDAY radio and Kevin Wallevand and Brian Sellin of WDAY-TV. Watch for Kevin’s special reports on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who gave us a dime or a minute of their time to help send these deserving veterans to Washington! Remember we have more than 500 more that want to go. We need a total of about $400,000. We’re about halfway there. Can you help? Send your donation to “Honor Flight”, c/o American Legion, 505 3rd Avenue North, Fargo, ND, 58102.
